Cupcakes Easing The Stress of Holiday Shopping

During your next visit to Manassas Mall, take a tasty break from all your stress- endured holiday shopping and just eat a cupcake. These aren't your average grocery store cupcakes that are nearing their expiration date, these are DanaCakes. Located directly in front of the food court, the DanaCakes Cupcakery stand started selling their tasty treats here on Black Friday and business is a booming! The stand offer delicious cupcakes in a variety of flavors such as Chocolate Decadence, Peanut Butter Cup, Marvelous Mocha, Bugs Bunny, and the ever- popular Lovestruck - a red velvet cake draped with a delightful vanilla bean cream cheese frosting. Dana Oliver, owner of the cupcakery, is originally an accountant from San Diego, California, who has been baking her whole life. Growing up, Dana's father was the baker in the house and shed his influence at an early age. Following her best friends advice to create a website, Dana's business quickly took off. Bulk orders started coming in and she also became heavily involved in charity events, donating her luscious little cakes. Her husband, and certified cupcake taste tester, recently accepted a promotion that landed the couple in the Northern Virginia area. They closed on their Centreville home on October 6th, and a month and a half later, Dana was in the mall selling cakes. "We were like, do we stay in California or go to Virginia? We packed up and here we are." According to Dana, business has been really good. She tells Patch the businesses sells an average of 130 cupcakes a day, proving the move was well worth it. A lot of hard work goes into making the final product. Being a certified home bakery enables her to do all the baking from the confines of her own house. "I get home around 3pm and spend the next 5-6 hours baking cakes, then wake up the following morning around 5 and start icing." She has her stand and cakes ready by 10am, sells some cakes, goes home, then does it all over again the next day. She serves different flavors of cakes on a rotating basis, with new flavors getting unveiled every Friday. The new flavor today was Chocolate Peppermint, a chocolate holiday-style cake topped with a tasteful Chocolate Peppermint icing and baby candy cane surprise. Asked of her favorite cake, Dana didn't even hesitate. "Peanut Butter Cup!" With an extremely moist chocolate cake center and a gooey peanut butter and creamcheese topping it is one of the stands top sellers. Priced at $3.25 a piece these cakes are sure to satisfy your self indulgence. You can also purchase a half dozen for $17 and a dozen for $30. Dana Cakes offers catering services as well. Stand opens at 10am and is open until 11pm during the holiday season. If you can't make it to Manassas Mall, check out Dana's website to view all of her flavors and to place an order.
