Dad's Visit

My Dad and Joann came to visit us in DC. Joann hadn't visited DC before, so we took her to see some of the sights. We went to view the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall. My dad lost his cousin Stoney in the war, so the first thing he did was find his name on the wall, bowed his head and paid his respects to his cousin.

We also visited the Thomas Jefferson Memorial

My dad, who is also a Mayor, set up a tour of the Capital building through his good friend, Congressman Kevin McCarthy. It was an educational and inspiring tour.

The beautiful Washington Monument.

Last, but certainly not least we headed over to the Arlington National Cemetery. Jonathan's Uncle Russ was a veteran and is laid to rest here at the national cemetery. We paid our respects to Uncle Russ for all he has done for our freedom and headed to dinner.

The next day we visited George Washington's Mt. Vernon. What a beautiful place to visit.

We drove up to go on a little hike in the Shenandoah National Park-Skyline Drive with the whole Oliver family.

After our hike we headed to Veritas Vineyard & Winery, Starry Nights for a picnic, a bonfire and some live music.
