A Day in Baltimore at National Aquarium.

We drove to Baltimore to spend the day at the National Aquarium and hang out on the waterfront.

Once we arrived we grabbed brunch at my favorite café in Baltimore, Miss Shirley's Café!  Named as one of the top 20 best breakfast restaurants in America, Miss Shirley's French toast, chicken and waffles, and the dish called "Shirley's affair with Oscar" are almost too good to be true! They also won Food Networks-Best breakfast dish in Maryland. Their food is unique and delicious!

I ordered the Shirley's Crush "Passion Fruit Vodka, Triple Sec, Splash of Club Soda & Fresh Squeezed Orange Juice with Pulp, garnished with an Orange Slice, Strawberry & Mint, with a Sugar Rim"
&
 Upstream Salmon Salad Club
"Dill Salmon Salad, Red & Yellow Tomato, Cucumber, Capers, Red Onion, Bibb Lettuce & Dill Aioli on Pumpernickel & Sourdough Toast"

Jonathan ordered the Spicy Shirley, "Shirley's version of a Bloody Mary! Absolut Citron, Green Tomato Slice, Pickled Okra, Peppers, Jalapenos, Celery, Peppadews, Lemon Wedge & Lime Wedge, with an Old Bay Rim with 2 oz. of Jumbo Lump Crab Meat"

And the Benne Seed Chicken 'N Waffles, "Fried Boneless Breast of Chicken Pieces & a Honey Mustard Aioli Drizzle on White Cheddar Green Onion Waffles with Peppadew-Jalapeno Butter, dusted with Cajun Spice"

We had never tried Chicken and Waffles before, so we decided to give it a shot since they're all the new rage currently. It was delicious! You need to check out Miss Shirley's Café, when visiting Baltimore, Maryland!

After brunch we headed towards the Aquarium and walked off brunch.

The Baltimore Aquarium is absolutely breathtaking! They have more then 16,000 animals including sharks, dolphins, birds, frogs, turtles and jellies!

Entering into the rainforest!

We spent around 3-4 hour in the aquarium and were in need of a cold beverage. I try to order drinks I don't make at home when we go out, so I got a blended Pina Colada..

Mom got her favorite, a Mojito!

Kayelynn got her "Special Drink" aka a Shirley Temple!

Once we received our sugar boost, the little girl wanted to rent a Chessie (Sea Monster)Paddle Boat. She is way too cute to say no to, so Uncle Jonathan and I paddled around the Inner Harbor with mom and Kayleynn in the back of the Paddle Boat.

We had a great family filled day hanging out in the Inner Harbor, Baltimore, MD. xoxox -Dana

Best Italian in DC

My mom LOVES  Italian food, so I decided to take her to the best Italian in DC, Filomena's Ristorante! This place has been around for over 30 years and is one of DC's most popular Italian Restaurants. It's located in the heart of Georgetown.

When you enter the restaurant you are greeted by the "Pasta Mama", she sits in the front of the restaurant and makes all the homemade pasta.
Kayelynn was very interested in all the wonderful desserts they have to offer.
The atmosphere is very elegant, charming and unique.
Kayelynn went and helped Pasta Momma make ravioli. She turned the pasta machine as pasta momma flattened out the pasta dough.

Homemade Ravioli
We ordereed the Penne Con Salsicce:
Penne Pasta tossed with roasted & ground Chef Made Italian Sweet Sausage, sautéed Mushrooms, Onions, Herbs and Chianti Wine in a Abruzzi Country Style hearty Tomato Sauce with sautéed Link Sausage Pieces

After dinner they bring out complementary Sambuco and Amaretto.
I adore this place and I think all of you would too!! It is worth a try when you're in Georgetown.

Smithsonian's National Zoo

Lions, Tigers and Bears...oh my!!!

It's summer in the city and a perfect day to go to the Zoo! Part of the Smithsonian Institution, the National Zoo is the nation's zoo. It is a 163-acre zoological park set amid Rock Creek National Park in the heart of Washington, D.C. You can visit the Zoo 364 days a year to see 2,000 individual animals of 400 different species

This Lion heard sirens going by and got very upset.

After a couple very hot hours at the Zoo, it was time for Jonathan to head to school. We drove over to Foggy Bottom and stopped for a drink at Circa Foggy Bottom. Circa is a pretty popular hangout for the students at the George Washington University.
We grabbed a cold drink, had a few appetizers, discussed all the great animals at the Zoo and had a lot of good laughs.
Uncle Jonathan headed to class and Kayelynn imagined herself being a student of the GWU someday.

I taught Kayelynn how to hail her first cab and she did a great job getting us to Georgetown waterfront for a silly girls photo-shoot.

After our photo shoot we grabbed a drink at Sequoia's on the Potomac River.

Once the sun went down we went to dinner at Filomena Italian Ristorante. You can find that post here. Such a wonderful day with my two favorite girls!
